Hard Goods Material Manager

JOB TITLE: HARD GOODS MATERIAL MANAGER
DEPARTMENT: AQUALAB
REPORTS TO: MATERIALS AND INNOVATION MANAGER

JOB PURPOSE:

To implement the Aqualab Materials Development function for the creation and delivery of world class innovation and material technologies to build Speedo’s competitive advantage across all consumer segments and hard goods product categories.

AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

• Assist the Materials Development Manager in the creation of the Aqualab Materials Development plan.

• Implement the specific section of the Materials Development plan in conjunction with key stakeholders including SIL, Speedo Asia, global partners and licensees, for commercialization on time and in full, exploiting cross-functional opportunities.

• Manage external development and research partners, identify new opportunities to create competitive advantage.

• Work closely with category teams to provide input to research and development of both raw materials, manufacturing and accessories.

• Grow and exploit the Speedo hard materials IP portfolio in association with the Pentland legal team.

• Manage the hard materials handover from Aqualab and continually explore best practice.

• Manage the Aqualab hard material samples library.

• Work alongside the quality team to assist in setting and maintaining hard materials quality and performance standards.

• Responsible for hard materials specific Aqualab OGSM, KPI’s and Milestones.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Technical knowledge, to degree level (preferably post-graduate level) experience of applied polymer / hard materials, including latest market developments and know how.

• The capability to work with advanced material producers from across the globe.

• The ability to work with external individuals, institutes and facilities to support materials development.

• Experience of cross functional team working and integration.

• Ability to manage and deliver multiple, complex projects on time and in full.

Product Developer - Hard Goods

JOB TITLE: PRODUCT DEVELOPER – SPEEDO HARD GOODS (STUDENT PLACEMENT)
DEPARTMENT: PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
REPORTS TO: SENIOR HARD GOODS DEVELOPER

TEMPORARY CONTRACT

JOB PURPOSE:

To support the timely development of all Hard Goods products from design to product specification and final approval ensuring both cost and manufacturing viability for the relevant vendor whilst also ensuring the product stays at the forefront of innovation.

AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Work closely with Aqualab Product engineer and Shenzhen office technical team to:

• Collaborate with the Category team at an early stage of NPD to develop and implement the product strategy; setting fit for purpose standards with specific reference to the capability of both raw material and finished products.

• Proactively support and resolve issues on product development, engineering and testing as required. Identify root cause and apply continuous improvement methodology.

• Support Category product development processes to have development (Red Seal) samples, tech pack, fitting or testing and Gold seals OTIF.

• Support Speedo Asia and work together with key vendors to deliver Product development and Quality improvement including shorter lead times, Product re-engineering and margin improvements.

• Manage calendar deadlines of the development process from design to delivery of the technical pack to the vendors/ Speedo Asia.

• Ensure all product data and tool boxes are accurately maintained and updated as appropriate to agreed timescales.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• How to manage the development critical path ensuring key milestones are met.

• Manage product specifications and working with cross functional team to ensure data maintained to support effective product development translation at the Vendors/Speedo Asia.

• Good computer skills including Illustrator, Word, Power Point, Excel and email.

• Strong attention to product development details and can make a clear introduction to related vendors.
